August '21 Update
We hope you’ve had an amazing August, we’ve been busy improving the service. This month has been spent enhancing the Gather API to make it both faster and more powerful. We also spent time creating the insight page (which is powering this article right now). This allows us to communicate updates and new feature releases. Finally, we rebranded the website and social media pages to include new illustration art.
Website Rebranding
We started noticing a lot of businesses that we use were implementing illustrations on their site rather than photos. We liked the idea of being able to communicate more about a page through the use of illustrations and design. It gave us a fun way to communicate what the page does, and what a user might expect when they click on the page. We hope you like the new characters that you can see below.
Gather API Improvements
With more users searching for leads, we needed to improve the Gather API to read websites faster to prevent delayed searches. The part of the Gather API that reads websites was holding all the information in it’s memory which has worked fine. At scale this meant sometimes holding content from hundreds of web pages at the same time. If the server went down it broke but we implemented a new solution.
We were also limited by the number of sites the Gather API could read at the same time. This hadn’t been a problem during initial user testing but was becoming more of an issue. We opted to build a pool of service workers, each of which could read a website then add it’s findings to the lead. This upgrade has fixed delays that some users experienced if entering a search while a website was being read.
The Insight Page
We also spent time creating the insight page so we could host a blog to share news and information with our growing user base. The blog is custom built, so that it could be optimised for speed. As part of ongoing seo efforts, we implemented a dynamic sitemap which is automatically generated so that the articles can be discovered and listed by search engines. We look forward to sharing more with you going forward.
Looking Forward
The increase in user engagement means we’re looking to move over from email support to a live chat that will be implemented throughout the site.
